There is nothing more feminine than a soft dress of flowing fabric, flushed lips and cheeks and our favorite accessory: a classic hat. Add braids that are tied with ribbons and we're basically in love. The first time we came across Jane March's character in The Lover, we were practically swooning.  Hats are so multipurpose and add an instant touch of grace and mystery. Whether we are headed to the market, beach, or out for an afternoon walk, we seldom leave home without one.   

I love a good almost monochromatic outfit, there is something so chic and feminine about neutrals on neutrals especially when it involves a pretty blouse and high waist trousers...very Katherine Hepburn, no?  This look from Mode Amour will never go out of style (in my opinion) because every component of the outfit is timeless. Simple leather sandals, straw handbag, high waist trousers, silk blouse... there is no ornamentation on anything, no funky little detail about any of it.  You could wear this outfit to the office, on vacation, on a solo date at a cafe before nipping off to the bookstore...

A white cotton long sleeved top is a MUST in your wardrobe. I haven't found one exactly right for AV yet, but once I do... First off, if you're not following Gonzalez y Gonzalez on Instagram you really should! It is a BEAUTIFUL home supplies shop in Spain (Madrid) and I am so SMITTEN by it. Why doesn't a shop like this exist in Portland? Anyhow, back to fashion! This combination of a crisp and classic blouse and a-line midi skirt with espadrilles... it will NEVER be out of fashion. I love a good classic midi dress, especially if it's navy blue. It so happens that most of the navy blue midi dresses in my own closet are vintage...have you ever thought about the term midi dress? That's a relatively new term I think. Like women in the 40s were not shopping for midi dresses...all their dresses were just that length due to war time rationing. LOL. Fashion history is fun!
